The above photo shows a concrete retaining wall without a geotextile fabric (filter fabric) between the wall and the soil. The soil has leaked through cracks in the concrete wall and has left voids behind the wall. Without proper maintenance, this entire structure will eventually fail because of improper design and construction.

Many waterfront property owners wrongfully believe that pouring sackrete or concrete into the hole will solve the problem. It will not. It will only add to the cost of a permanent repair.
