Precast Concrete Bulkheads
The above precast concrete system is made up of precast concrete"H-Beams" with precast concrete "panels" in between. At the base of the panels is a grout filled articulating block (AB) mat extending out toward the bay. This mat is to help protect the base of the system. Looking to the left of the photo, it is possible to see some of the mat. Absent some type of protection at the base is a usually cause what is commonly referred to as "underscour." In lieu of using the "AB" mat, there are other alternatives available. Several work equally as well, or better, and are less expensive to install and maintain.
I will have some more information on precast concrete systems later. There are several systems on the market, so I will keep gathering information.
