Used Tire Erosion Control Systems
A Practical Use For Used Vehicle Tires

Old Used Vehicle Tires Used As A Revetment (bulkhead) System

A major flaw in the above revetment is: The tires should extend down past the toe of the embankment for about 8 to 10 feet. They should be layed flat on the stream bottom and secured one to the other with cable, steel banding, nylon, or polyester rope. The extension will serve as a protective apron for the foundation of the revetment. Otherwise, the soil will eventually erode from underneath the foundation and will cause the revetment to fail.

Driving #6 by about 4 ft. lengths of steel rebar through each foundation tire will add additional stability to the system. The tires may be filled with rock, broken concrete, brick or stabilized soil.
